Rear Elevation and Smokebox
Shown here is the rear elevation of the fireplace and smokebox. A limestone shelf (bottom of the picture) will be installed below the smokebox to provide stability and aesthetic value.
Side Elevation of Fireplace
This is the side elevation of the fireplace laid out dry with the clay liners extending above the blocks. Everything seen in this image will either be rendered in plaster or mortared in with brick at the completion of the project.
Outdoor Fireplace
The main masonry project of the semester was to design and build an outdoor fireplace. Much of the project was dictated by budget and materials available, so it was decided to use "Fire-Rock" chimney blocks for the firebox and clay flue liners for the smoke chamber. Featured below are the internal components of the fireplace laid out dry.
